How does Pregaben 150mg Capsule work?

Pregabalin in the Pregaben Capsule works by reducing the release of a chemical (neurotransmitter) in the brain responsible for the sensation of pain.

• Pregaben 150mg Capsule should be taken as per the dose and duration prescribed by your doctor.
• It may cause sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you.
• It may cause blurring or loss of vision. Inform your doctor immediately if you notice any vision changes.
• Inform your doctor if you develop any unusual changes in mood or behavior, new or worsening depression, or suicidal thoughts or behavior.
• Symptoms of an overdose are similar to common side effects like sleepiness, restlessness, irritation, etc. If you think you have taken too much of the Pregaben Capsule contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital. In rare cases of an overdose of this medicine, it can lead to coma.
• Do not take a double dose of the Pregaben Capsule, if you have missed a dose, take the next dose as soon as you remember. If it is already time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your normal dosing schedule.
• Do not stop taking the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor as it may worsen your underlying condition.

Indication of Pregaben 150mg Capsule

Pregaben Capsule belongs to a class of anti-seizure medicine and is a structural derivative of the chemical messenger GABA. It is used to treat pain associated with nerve damage. 

Pharmacology

Pregabalin is a structural derivative of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA. It binds with high affinity to the alpha2-delta site in CNS tissues. The mechanism is not fully understood, but it is thought to be involved in anti-nociceptive and antiseizure effects.

Dosage & Administration of Pregaben 150mg Capsule

• Neuropathic pain (DPN): Start at 50 mg three times daily (150 mg/day), can increase to 100 mg three times daily (300 mg/day). For Pregabalin CR, start at 165 mg once daily, can increase to 330 mg once daily.
• PHN: Start at 75 mg twice daily or 50 mg three times daily (150 mg/day), increase to 150 mg twice daily or 100 mg three times daily (300 mg/day). Pregabalin CR: start at 165 mg once daily, and increase to 330 mg once daily.
• Fibromyalgia: Start at 75 mg twice daily (150 mg/day), increase to 150 mg twice daily (300 mg/day), and increase to 225 mg twice daily (450 mg/day).
• Spinal cord injury pain: Start at 75 mg twice daily (150 mg/day), increase to 150 mg twice daily (300 mg/day), and may go up to 300 mg twice daily (600 mg/day).

Administration:

• The oral route can be taken with or without food.
• Pregabalin CR tablet should be taken after an evening meal.
• Do not split, crush, or chew the tablet.
• If a dose is missed, follow specific instructions for when to take the next dose based on meal timings.

Interaction

Unlikely to be involved in significant pharmacokinetic drug interactions.

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to Pregabalin or its components.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• No adequate studies on pregnant women; and the potential risk to the fetus.
• Small amounts detected in human milk; breastfeeding is not recommended due to potential tumorigenicity.

Precautions & Warnings
